Our Staff

Mr. Jeremy Stewart is in his second year at Sacred Heart Catholic after 21 years in public education, including nine years in administration. He is married to Jessica, who is the Director of Early Childhood Education at SHC. They have two children, including Aiden, who is in sixth grade. They are members of St. Augustine Parish.  Mr. Stewart grew up in Corydon and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in Corydon. He has a bachelor's degree in secondary mathematics education and a master’s in education from Indiana University Southeast and his administrator’s license from Oakland City University.

He loves being principal at Sacred Heart Catholic and his goals are to strengthen the Catholic identity of the school; focus on helping students be better readers, writers, and problem solvers; grow enrollment; and support campus updates.

Adrienne Ehringer is a parishioner and school parent who is the new Administrative Assistant to the Principal. She and her husband, Dan, have been married for eight years and have two daughters at SHC, Adelaide and Vivian.  Mrs. Ehringer previously worked as a Licensed Pharmacy Tech before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She loves SHC already and is looking forward to working with all the teachers, staff, students, and families. 

My name is Shannon Lawson. I work part time and manage the Indiana Choice Scholarship information for parents and do other responsibilities as needed. I have been married to my husband, Jeff, for 36 years and have two adult sons. We are members at St. Anthony. 

I previously worked for Greater Clark County Schools for 22 years as a cafeteria monitor and worked in different schools with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, who suggested I apply to this job. I enjoy the challenges of this job and helping parents with Choice Scholarships.  I like that Sacred Heart feels like Family.

Hello, my name is Amy Salazar. I have transitioned from working in the cafeteria for a couple years as a substitute to now working in the office part-time as the PowerSchool Specialist. I enjoy the staff I get to work with and the positive atmosphere Sacred Heart has. I am here to help out not only in the office but also anywhere the school needs me. In addition to this job, I am a Real Estate Agent and event planner for Fresco Tea Bar. 

I am Jessica Stewart, and this is my second year at Sacred Heart Catholic. I enjoy using my previous preschool teaching experience as Director of Early Childhood Education. I loved teaching and am looking forward to using my experience to strengthen the Sacred Heart program. In this role, I get to work closely with both our Preschool teachers as well as get a chance to meet all our Preschool students and their families. I look forward to the seeing the students' faces light up when they learn a new concept or skill -- as well as having the chance to learn from them too.

My husband is Jeremy Stewart,  Principal at Sacred Heart Catholic. We are members of St. Augustine Parish and have two children, Anna and Aiden, who is in fifth grade at SHC. We have wanted to work in a Catholic school for quite some time, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to work together while sharing our faith with so many students and families.

I look forward to growing the Preschool program with the goal of having two classes per grade level and to eventually bring back the daycare program!

I am Nellie Springston, and I am very excited to join the St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities’ school counseling team this year to provide services to St. Anthony and Sacred Heart! I look forward to meeting all the school staff, parents and students this year.

I live in downtown Jeffersonville in the house I grew up in with my husband, Jimmy, our two girls, June and Lou, and our dog, Sammy. We attend OLPH Parish in New Albany, which is also where my daughter June attends school as a second grader. We spend most of our free-time outdoors riding our bikes along the Greenway, or hanging out in our AirStream! I love being outdoors, as it helps me recharge.

I have a master’s degree in School Counseling and Psychology from UofL and went to IU Bloomington for undergrad. I have spent most of the past decade working as a behavior specialist in schools, and, just in the past two years, in private practice as well. I love being in the classroom teaching lessons about mental, emotional and behavioral well-being, and also love the face-to-face time I get with students in small group or individual work.

After seven years living in Texas, I am so happy to be back home, and serving in the community in which I live. The school counseling team offers social, emotional and academic support in a variety of ways.  This includes collaboration and consultation with teachers, caregivers and staff, individual counseling, as needed, classroom guidance lessons and small group lessons.

We truly believe it is key to keep the caregivers informed on strategies discussed so that we can partner together in practicing new skills.  I look forward to partnering with you this year.  Please know I am here and feel free to contact me with any questions.  I look forward to a wonderful school year together!

My name is Christa Hoyland, and I serve as Communications Director for Sacred Heart Catholic School and for Sacred Heart Church and St. St. Augustine Church. I have belonged to Sacred Heart Church since 1996. My husband,  Bob, grew up at Sacred Heart and graduated from Sacred Heart School. Both our sons, who are now grown, also graduated from Sacred Heart. 

I have been actively involved in the parish for decades in ministries such as lector and sacristan and on various committees. When my sons were at SHC, I was involved in P.S.T.S. and the Marketing Committee. 

I have a bachelor’s degree in English and secondary education certification from Brescia University. I have experience in teaching, journalism, communications, and small-business ownership. In my free time, I love to spend time with my grandchildren and my family. I am blessed to share my gifts with my parish family and Sacred Heart Catholic.

Hi! My name is Bettyann Simpson. I have worked at Sacred Heart School since Sept. 2002. My first 13 school years here were spent working in the school kitchen as head cook. Starting with the 2015 school year, I began my current position as Food Service Director. I love working at Sacred Heart! I am blessed to spend my days with wonderful teachers and staff, and I love to see and talk with all the students as they come through the lunch line each day!

Hello! My name is Carrie Atkinson, and this is my second year at SHC. I teach the 2 year olds and am so excited to learn and grow with the children this year. I am from Indiana and enjoy spending time with my family and my summers in Kansas. I have an Associate in Elementary Education as well as an Infant-Toddler Child Development Associate. I feel truly blessed to be a part of the SHC family and cannot wait for another amazing year with our littlest learners. 

Hello! My name is Tricia Gassoway, and I teach 2 year olds in Child Care Ministry. I have a Master's Degree in Public Service Leadership with an emphasis in Criminal Justice and am transitioning my degree to Education. I am a native of Jeffersonville, my home church is St. Augustine, and I previously volunteered as a catechist with CCD for a few years. God has blessed me with a wonderful family, including Xander (4), and Alex (3), who are students at Sacred Heart Catholic, as well as two older children, Tristan and Trinity.  

Hello! My name is Kathleen Emly and I teach Beginners Preschool. I have been here at Sacred Heart for 12 years.  My husband, John, and I have been married for 37 years, and we have three children.  Teaching the “littlest learners” is a very rewarding experience. They grow and learn not just academically, but socially and spiritually as well!

My name is Tammy Coffey. This is my fifth year teaching Preschool at Sacred Heart. I live in Jeffersonville, and I love spending time with my family and friends and exercising in my free time. I grew up going to Catholic schools all my life until college. I went to St. Anthony's and graduated in 2011, went to Providence High School and graduated in 2015, and then to Indiana State University for college to get my bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education and graduated in 2019. Teaching these kiddos everyday brings me absolute joy, and I love seeing their faces when they learn something new or when that light bulb finally goes off in their head. I am looking forward to seeing how much my students grow this year.

Hello! My name is Rhonda Keith.  I teach Kindergarten.  This is my 17th year teaching and also my 17th year at Sacred Heart.  I graduated in May of 2008 from Indiana University Southeast with a degree in Elementary Education.  I love working with children and have many years of experience doing so.  Before teaching at Sacred Heart, I worked with the YMCA child care program and also did substitute teaching during college.  I am really excited about teaching at Sacred Heart and am looking forward to the school year.  I live with my husband, our daughter, Caroline, and our son, Charlie, in Jeffersonville. 

Hello! My name is Mindy Brockwell; I am beginning my 25th year of teaching in Catholic education. Twenty-three years have been devoted to kindergarten and first grade, as well as within the New Albany Deanery schools. Your little ones capture my heart! I count myself blessed to be a member of our Sacred Heart Catholic family. My sons, Gray and Colt, are both Sacred Heart Catholic and Our Lady of Providence High School graduates. Twenty-four years of teaching experience has provided a lot of time to reflect on the best practices of education. I'm Ms. Debby Townsend, second grade teacher at SHC. I am a graduate of St. Anthony School, Our Lady of Providence, and IUS with a degree in Elementary Education and a Special Education minor. I love teaching the sacramental year of second grade, helping the students learn about the great gift Christ gives to us in the Eucharist.

Hi all! My name is Miranda Lee. This is my 14th year in education but my first year as a teacher. 

I have worked for Greater Clark and for New Albany/Floyd County Schools as an instructional assistant, special needs paraeducator and a general education paraeducator. 

I was born in Jeffersonville (and am a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church) but currently live in Austin, Ind., with my husband of 10 years and my two boys, 

Spencer and Peyton. 

I am so excited to be working at Sacred Heart Catholic School this year! I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in 

kindergarten myself. I am finally getting to live my dream!  

My name is Megan Kernahan, and I am so excited to be at Sacred Heart Catholic teaching fifth and sixth grade this school year. I received my undergraduate degree from Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana, and completed my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana Wesleyan University. I live in Jeffersonville with my husband, Patrick, and our two children, Rebecca and William, who both attend SHC. We have been lifelong members of the Catholic Community of Jeffersonville, and we love our school and church family.

My name is Mr. Curt Roehm, and I'm excited to be the sixth grade teacher here at Sacred Heart Catholic School.  This year marks my 16th year in education.  

My name is Janice Burch.  I am the seventh grade homeroom teacher and the ELA teacher for junior high. Teaching is my life's passion, and I have been teaching for 27 years.  This is my 25th year teaching at Sacred Heart.  My years of experience as a teacher have shaped a teaching philosophy that guides how I help my students succeed in the classroom and beyond. I truly believe that their success begins with making them feel comfortable in the classroom.  I strive to create a classroom environment that  helps students achieve their full potential.

My name is Mrs. Evanczyk.  I am the eighth grade homeroom teacher.  I teach Math, Science, Religion and Health to grades seven and eight in the junior high. I work with the Student Council on various projects for the school, and I work with the students to raise money for their trip to Washington, D.C., in the eighth grade. 

I am a graduate of Sacred Heart.  This year begins my 44th year of teaching.  I came to SHS in the fall of 1983.  I attended Hanover College for my bachelor's degree and then went on to Indiana University SE for my master's degree. 

In math class be ready to spend time at the board.  I have all of my students at the board showing the steps of their work. I have high expectations in my classroom.  It will take hard work, enthusiasm, and cooperation for us to be successful. Are you ready for a challenge?

Hello, my name is Abbie Zastawny. I hold a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Murray State University and a master’s degree in library science from Spalding University. This is my second year at Sacred Heart and my 34th year in education. I previously taught at Parkview Middle School: 25 years as the Library Media Specialist, four years as a PE teacher, and three years as a sixth grade science and social studies teacher. After 32 years in Greater Clark County Schools, I decided it was time to retire.

I absolutely love teaching PE at Sacred Heart and love my Sacred Heart School family as well!

I began my BFA at The Ohio State University in 1977. GO Buckeyes!! After being a stay at home mom for many years, I went back to school to finish my education. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Spalding University with a double major in Fine Art and Education. I am a member of the National Art Educators Association and Kappa Gamma Pi, an honor society for graduates of Catholic Colleges and Universities.

My artwork has been shown at the Huff Gallery at Spalding University. I also have artwork in The Egan Leadership Center, Spalding University Administrative Offices, Veteran's Memorial Park and Vendome Copper and Brass.

In addition to teaching K-8 Art, I also teach Art Club after school. I am the Yearbook advisor and one of the coaches for our Academic team. I am happy to serve Sacred Heart Parish as a lector.

My husband, Bob, and I are the parents of three grown sons: Anthony, Charles and Justin. Bob and I have been blessed with four grandchildren: Lourdes, Gabriella, Rhett and Rowan. We also have a beautiful golden retriever named Lucy. We are members of the Greater Louisville Golden Retriever Club, where I serve as vice-president.

This is my 35th year teaching K-8 music and 6th year teaching computer technology in Catholic schools.  I graduated from Hanover College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and then completed my Master of Education degree at Indiana University Southeast.  I encourage students to become life-long learners and strive to stimulate their learning through activities that are aligned with the Indiana State Standards for music and computer technology.

My husband (Keith) and I have been married for almost 33 years and have two precious young adult children who are adopted from Guatemala.  We live on a farm and truly enjoy spending time together.  We work, play and travel together as much as time will allow.

My name is Leslie Taylor, and I have been with Sacred Heart School since 2004. I started with Sacred Heart School as a teaching assistant for two years. I have now added the school librarian as one of my duties. I love to read and hope I can instill the love of reading into the children at Sacred Heart School.

I’m proud to serve as a Reading Interventionist at Sacred Heart Catholic, where I support students in building confidence and skills in reading. With many years of classroom experience, I’m passionate about helping every child grow and succeed. My husband and I and our children are all parishioners at Sacred Heart Church, and we feel truly blessed to be part of this faith-filled school and parish community.  

Hello! My name is Anastasia Manaugh, and I'm excited to be at Sacred Heart this year and can't wait to meet all the students. I will be working as the Intervention/Remediation Teacher through Great Clark three days a week. I have had the privilege to work with kids most of my life in either daycare or in school settings. I have worked for JCPS in Louisville for 10 years where I taught kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. Last year, I worked for Silver Creek Primary as an SPED assistant in kindergarten and first grade. I'm looking forward to also working with older grades this year at Sacred Heart.

I am honored to begin my first year teaching at Sacred Heart School as the 4-year-old assistant teacher. I have one year of experience in early childhood education, working with children ages 1 to 3. As a lifelong member of this community, I am excited to serve at my home parish and within the deanery where I was raised. I am a proud alumna of Holy Family Catholic School, and my husband is a graduate of Sacred Heart School. We both had the privilege of attending Our Lady of Providence High School. The care and strong foundation I received through Catholic education has had a lasting impact on my life, and I am grateful for the opportunity to pass on that same experience. I look forward to nurturing young minds and sharing the love of God with my students.
